Kalispell and the valley floor generally warm up before higher elevation areas do. Whitefish and the routes up toward Big Mountain often hold onto cooler, wetter spring conditions longer than the valley floor, which means a spring swap that makes sense in Kalispell in early May might be premature for a Whitefish commute that still sees cold mornings and occasional late snow into that same month.
